This quick trip takes advantage of the fact that some obliging Five-striped Sparrows have spent the summer in Box Canyon in the Santa Rita Mountains, saving birders the long trek to California Gulch. Five-striped Sparrow is one of southern Arizona’s most challenging birds to find, given its preference for remote arid hillsides, so this is a golden chance to see them with relative ease. Bring water, snacks, and all of your usual birding gear. Meet at the corner of Sahuarita Road and State Route 83. Call 520-488-8551 or email firstname.lastname@example.org. Cost is $10/person.
